Brain scans conducted during the study revealed that a part of the visual system in the back of the brain became thinner after the diet, suggesting a potential neural change that may be linked to the reduction in migraines. The researchers suspect that a leak in the blood-brain barrier may allow glutamate to enter the brain and activate nerve cells in a way that triggers migraines.
