Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has made a bold statement during the ongoing second Test between India and South Africa in Guwahati. Kaif expressed doubts about India’s chances of winning the Test after South Africa posted a massive total in the first innings.

South Africa managed to score 489 runs in their first innings, putting India on the back foot. Kaif suggested that India would have a slim chance of victory if they could reach 600 runs in reply. However, he conceded that the Proteas seemed to have the upper hand in the game and the series, especially after their victory in the first Test in Kolkata. Kaif highlighted that these were concerning signs for the Indian team.

In a recent statement on his YouTube channel, Kaif stated, “I don’t think India will win this game from here. Maybe it can be a draw or you will lose. There is just a 1% chance if you get to 600 and South Africa gets out on 100, but that will be a miracle. I feel this game and the trophy is almost in South Africa’s hands. These are not good signs.”

Kaif also pointed out that India’s bowlers have become accustomed to playing on turning tracks in recent years, which has affected their performance on better pitches. He emphasized the need for proper planning, attacking cricket, and a clear mindset if India wants to win matches, regardless of the pitch conditions.

The former cricketer also shared his thoughts on the idea of split coaching for different formats in the Indian team. While there have been calls for splitting coaching duties due to the team’s recent struggles, Kaif believed that it would not work effectively, as many players participate in all formats throughout the year. He emphasized the importance of a coach being present with the team consistently to identify areas for improvement and maintain good communication with the players.

As India struggled in their reply to South Africa’s total, Kaif’s concerns about the team’s performance and coaching setup have gained significance. With India trailing by 387 runs at tea on the third day, the pressure is mounting on the team to turn the tide in their favor.

In conclusion, Kaif’s observations and analysis provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by the Indian team in the ongoing Test series against South Africa. As the team looks to bounce back and salvage a result in the remaining matches, Kaif’s advice on strategy and coaching continuity could prove crucial in their quest for success.
