The family of Te Anihana Pomana have expressed their disappointment with the premature release of a police media statement announcing the discovery of a body before official identification had been confirmed.

Te Anihana Pomana, also known as Ani Anderson, was reported missing on August 21 after leaving Sky City hotel in Auckland during the early hours of the morning.

Today, the police revealed that a body believed to be Pomana’s was found on Saturday in dense bush in Pukekohe, Auckland.

In a social media post, the family criticized the premature release of information.

“The media statements were issued without proper confirmation or formal identification, leaving the whānau unable to inform many close to Te Anihana. We apologize to those who had to learn this news in such a manner,” the post stated.

Details of the Release

In their media release, the police announced the discovery of a body.

“At approximately 7:43 pm, the police were alerted to a body found in dense bush in the Pukekohe area,” the release stated.

“Although formal identification is pending, it is believed to be the body of Te Anihana.”

The police mentioned that an investigation is ongoing and a post-mortem examination will be conducted in the near future.

“The family has been informed of this development and is receiving support,” the statement added.

Further comments from the police are currently being sought.
