Man Arrested for Attempting to Rob Same Bank he Robbed Nearly a Decade Ago

A convicted Texas bank robber has been arrested for trying to rob the same bank that led to him being locked up in federal prison for nearly a decade. Christopher McKay, 43, allegedly stormed into a Fort Worth Wells Fargo at around 10 a.m. on Thursday, threatening employees that he was armed with a handgun and demanding money, the Fort Worth Police Department said in a press release.

However, his heist did not go as planned, and he fled on foot without any cash, police said. Officers swarmed the area and arrested him nearby after the failed robbery. “An ambulance was notified as the suspect was going through fentanyl withdrawals,” a spokesperson for the department told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

He has been charged with aggravated robbery and had local warrants out for his arrest before the botched bank heist, the Fort Worth Police Department said. McKay was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on Friday, with his bond set at $150k.

Police noted McKay’s history with the same Wells Fargo. He had robbed the branch nine years ago but was caught shortly afterward and served seven years in federal prison.
