Second Man Sentenced in Violent Bank Robbery

A second man has been sentenced in a violent Rogers Park bank robbery that left customers and employees terrified, even though the robbery only netted less than $10,000.

Kendall Sullivan recently pleaded guilty to charges of bank robbery by force and using a firearm in a crime of violence. U.S. District Judge Franklin Valderrama handed down a 111-month prison term, which equates to a little over nine years. Sullivan’s accomplice, Troy Luckett, received a 135-month sentence after admitting to the same charges in court records.

The robbery took place on December 23, 2023, at Byline Bank located at 7050 North Western Avenue. Sullivan and Luckett entered the bank, with Sullivan brandishing a loaded gun at a teller and demanding cash while Luckett stood nearby.

During the robbery, a teller managed to slip a GPS tracker into one of the money stacks before handing it over. Two customers entered the bank, and Luckett ordered them to the floor at gunpoint. When they tried to escape, Luckett chased them down, forcibly bringing them back inside the bank.

Police began tracking the GPS signal promptly and located two vehicles traveling with the device. One driver attempted to interfere with law enforcement to aid the lead car in escaping. When the vehicles separated, officers pursued Sullivan on foot and apprehended him. They recovered the full stolen amount of $9,433 and two loaded handguns found in a discarded jacket.

Luckett initially denied involvement in the robbery, claiming he was in the area for a Grindr meetup. However, investigators discovered his phone inside the bank, undermining his alibi. Additionally, two firearm cases found in his vehicle matched the guns linked to Sullivan, according to prosecutors.
