A shocking incident unfolded in September when prosecutors alleged that a Des Plaines woman shot and killed her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend in front of their child’s South Loop school. The accused, 31-year-old Quadaja Johnson, reportedly went as far as fist-bumping her boyfriend as the victim lay dying in a tragic turn of events.

During a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, Judge James Costello ordered Johnson to be detained pending trial after reviewing the case. The victim, 31-year-old Romeca Meeks-Blackmon, tragically lost her life on September 8 in the first block of West Cermak Road. Meeks-Blackmon had just dropped off her 6-year-old son at the school when Johnson arrived with her own 6-month-old child and her boyfriend, who is also the father of Meeks-Blackmon’s son.

According to prosecutors, an argument ensued between the two women shortly after Johnson’s arrival. The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation, with the man attempting to intervene and separate them. Johnson, who possessed a concealed carry license, allegedly retrieved a handgun from her vehicle and fired multiple shots at Meeks-Blackmon.

As the victim collapsed from her injuries, Johnson reportedly turned to her boyfriend and fist-bumped him in a chilling display. Prosecutors revealed that Johnson had previously filed a no-contact order against Meeks-Blackmon, although the order had not been served at the time of the tragic incident.

In a surprising twist, Johnson is claiming self-defense in the case. The details of the altercation and subsequent shooting have left the community in shock and disbelief.

The original reporting of this incident sheds light on a tragic and senseless act of violence that has left a family shattered and a community reeling. The pursuit of justice in this case will be closely monitored as the legal proceedings unfold.
