Nick Kyrgios, the controversial Australian tennis player, is once again in the spotlight for his misogynistic views as he prepares for the much-anticipated Battle of the Sexes against Aryna Sabalenka. Known for his outspoken and often inflammatory statements, both on and off the court, Kyrgios has faced criticism for his disrespectful remarks towards fellow players like Donna Vekic and Anna Kalinskaya. Additionally, he has been accused of common assault by his former girlfriend and has expressed opposition to equal pay in tennis, reflecting a pattern of anti-women views that has drawn widespread condemnation.

Catherine Whitaker, a prominent tennis insider and co-host of The Tennis Podcast, recently called out Kyrgios for his misogynistic tendencies, labeling him as a proponent of anti-women rhetoric. In a scathing commentary on her podcast, Whitaker asserted that Kyrgios actively chooses to represent misogyny and belittle women’s tennis. She criticized his upcoming Battle of the Sexes match against Sabalenka as a mere publicity stunt, suggesting that a victory for Kyrgios would only serve to reinforce his controversial beliefs.

Scheduled to take place on December 28, 2025, in Dubai, the Battle of the Sexes between Sabalenka and Kyrgios has sparked widespread debate and criticism within the tennis community. Rennae Stubbs, Serena Williams’ former coach, dismissed the event as irrelevant compared to historic matches that played a pivotal role in the fight for gender equality in sports. Similarly, former pro Steve Johnson criticized the showdown as unnecessary and ridiculous, questioning the need for such a spectacle in the current tennis landscape.

Despite the backlash, Sabalenka and Kyrgios have remained defiant, promoting their upcoming match with playful banter and spirited exchanges. However, the criticism from tennis pundits and commentators continues to mount, with many questioning the motives behind the Battle of the Sexes and its potential impact on the sport. As the controversial event approaches, the tennis world waits to see how the matchup between Sabalenka and Kyrgios will unfold and what implications it may have for the future of gender equality in tennis.
