COL Group International recently unveiled its state-of-the-art studio complex dedicated to microdrama production. Situated in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Macao-based facility boasts over 30 fully-equipped standing sets that replicate various global locations, ranging from passenger aircraft cabins to elegant French ballrooms.
The purpose-built studio complex caters to the increasing demand for high-quality short-form content worldwide. With the global microdrama industry projected to generate $26 billion in revenues by 2030, and China’s market expected to reach $7 billion in 2024 from $500 million in 2021, the timing of this investment couldn’t be more strategic.
The standing sets within the complex include a modern hospital ward, CEO corporate offices, luxury apartments, courtroom, Western-style bar, police investigation office, chapel, and dressing rooms, all conveniently located within the same compound.
This consolidated setup allows multiple productions to take place simultaneously, eliminating the need for location travel. Given that microdrama series typically wrap up within a week, this streamlined approach significantly enhances efficiency.
Timothy Oh, the general manager at COL Group International, emphasized the significance of this studio complex in shaping the future of global storytelling. He highlighted the shift of microdrama from a passing trend to a key player in the entertainment industry, paving the way for top-notch vertical productions that enhance the overall quality of shows and provide a superior experience for the cast and crew.
The facility also serves as the production hub for COL Group’s streaming platform, FlareFlow. James Wang, CEO of FlareFlow, outlined ambitious production goals tied to the new infrastructure, aiming to produce over 200 premium series for FlareFlow and its partners in 2026. This move demonstrates the company’s commitment to delivering cinematic quality content to a global audience at an unprecedented pace.
By centralizing the physical production pipeline into a purpose-built campus, COL Group aims to set new quality standards and meet the speed and volume demands of the microdrama format. The content produced will be tailored to cater to diverse international audiences, ensuring a wide reach and engagement.
With over 20 years of experience in content development, production, and IP management, COL Group International is a leading media and entertainment company. Positioned as an early innovator in the microdrama space, the company has created and powered multiple platforms, including FlareFlow, solidifying its position as a key player in the industry.
