“Solo Exhibition”, Jo Jago and “From Mud to Masterpiece: A Celebration of Clay”, Alexandra Pottery Club

In December, multimedia artist Jo Jago is showcasing her vibrant ink and watercolour paintings and prints at the Heafey Gallery in Central Stories, Alexandra. Jago’s work is reminiscent of cracked open crystals, with bold bands of crystalline blue and shimmering gold accents running through her landscapes and seascapes. Pieces like Starry Seascape on Foam Board evoke a sense of nostalgia and wonder, appealing to audiences of all ages.

Simultaneously, the Alexandra Pottery Club is hosting their annual end-of-year exhibition at the Henderson Gallery in Central Stories. The exhibition highlights the versatility and artistry of pottery, with pieces like Dee Russell’s glazed bowls Central Otago Night Sky and Sunset Over Clyde combining functionality with beauty. Jenny Knowles’ Quail in the Hills and Ruth Arnott’s Light on the Water showcase a blend of natural tones and rich colors, while Amelia Paterson’s pastel Chess Set adds a whimsical touch to the collection.

“December Works”, various artists

(Hullabaloo Art Space, Cromwell)

The Hullabaloo Art Space in Cromwell is closing out the year with a diverse collection of artworks, including lush landscapes, bronze sculptures, collage pieces, wire garments, and ceramic sculptures. Barbara Dawson’s bronze figures celebrate dance and movement, while Jacque Ruston’s quirky sculptures and Jennifer Hay’s intricate wire jewelry add a touch of whimsy to the space.

Debbie McCaw’s paper artworks transform discarded magazines into vibrant scenes, capturing the essence of light and color in her detailed compositions. Each piece tells a unique story, drawing viewers into a world of imaginative possibilities.

Gallery Thirty Three’s “Summer Series” in Wānaka features a diverse group exhibition with works in various media. Artists like Anna Evans, Katherine Throne, Neil Driver, and Tessa Barringer showcase their talents through vibrant paintings and detailed compositions.

Anna Evans’ forest scenes and Katherine Throne’s floral paintings exude energy and joy, while Neil Driver’s still life pieces invite viewers to admire the beauty of everyday objects. Tessa Barringer’s paintings, with their rich textures and dark backgrounds, create a sense of drama and elegance in the gallery space.
