President Trump has expressed support for a Senate Republican bill that aims to deposit up to $1,500 directly into Americans’ health care savings accounts. The bill is designed to reduce costs for the 24 million Americans on Obamacare.

Trump stated, “I like the concept. I don’t want to give the insurance companies any money,” emphasizing his concerns about the current state of the healthcare system.

The proposed bill includes provisions to provide $1,000 checks to eligible Affordable Care Act enrollees aged 18-49 and $1,500 checks to those aged 50-64. To qualify for these payments, enrollees must meet certain income criteria and be enrolled in specific health plans.

Senator Bill Cassidy, one of the bill’s cosponsors, echoed Trump’s sentiments, emphasizing the need to empower patients and reduce healthcare costs.

The bill is set for a procedural vote along with a separate measure by Senate Democrats to extend Obamacare subsidies. The move comes as Trump focuses on economic messaging ahead of the 2026 midterms, promising various financial incentives to Americans.

Despite ongoing inflation concerns, the Trump administration defends its tariff policies and touts efforts to make America more affordable. The administration is also working to lower prescription drug costs and combat fraud in the healthcare system.
