New Autopsy Findings Shed Light on Tragic Deaths in Lake Michigan

New details have emerged surrounding the tragic deaths of a woman and two young children who were found in Lake Michigan near Jackson Park earlier this year, as newly released autopsy findings provide more insight into the mysterious incident.

On September 13, first responders recovered the body of a one-year-old girl from the water in the 5700 block of South Lake Shore Drive. Shortly after, two more bodies were discovered nearly a mile south, with a six-year-old boy found in the 6300 block of East Hayes Drive and a 31-year-old woman in the same area. The victims were later identified as Drake Patton, her son Wyatt, and her daughter Jream.

A search of the area also uncovered a baby seat, two blankets, and a diaper bag near La Rabida Children’s Hospital, indicating a possible connection to the tragic incident.

Initial reports suggested that the deaths were related to a domestic dispute, although specifics were not disclosed by authorities. However, recent autopsy results from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office have shed more light on the situation. The woman’s cause of death has been determined as drowning by suicide, while the infant girl’s death has been ruled a homicide. The cause of death for the six-year-old boy is still pending further investigation.

Family members have revealed that Drake Patton had been struggling with significant mental health issues, providing a possible context for the tragic events that unfolded.

As the community continues to mourn the loss of Drake, Wyatt, and Jream, the details surrounding their deaths serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support.
