The stars of the hit series “Heated Rivalry,” Hudson Williams and François Arnaud, have recently responded to criticism from Jordan Firstman, known for his work on “I Love LA.” Firstman had commented that the depiction of gay sex in “Heated Rivalry” was not authentic to how gay people actually engage in sexual activity.

In response to Firstman’s comments, Arnaud took to Instagram to question whether there is only one way to portray gay sex authentically on television. He defended the show’s portrayal, asking if closeted hockey players should have the same type of sex as LA’s scene gay community. Williams also shared Arnaud’s comment on his Instagram Story, praising Firstman and the cast of “I Love LA.”

When asked to compare the gay sex scenes in “Heated Rivalry” and “I Love LA,” Firstman stood by his initial criticism, stating that the former did not accurately represent how gay people engage in sexual acts. He emphasized the importance of showcasing authentic queer love in media, rather than catering to mainstream entertainment preferences.

However, Firstman later retracted his comments, expressing his love for “Heated Rivalry” and acknowledging his tendency to speak impulsively. The show, which follows the romantic relationship between two hockey players masquerading as rivals, was recently renewed for a second season by HBO.

The second season of “Heated Rivalry” will be licensed by HBO without direct production involvement, following the success of the first season. Based on Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” book series, the show continues to explore the complexities of love and identity within the competitive world of professional sports.
