A man with a history of assault charges, Calvin Jones, was arrested after allegedly stealing a woman’s Porsche SUV in Midtown Manhattan. The incident occurred when the 39-year-old woman left her car running on 15th Street and Union Square East. Jones, aged 40, has two prior arrests for assault, according to police sources.
The theft was reported to the police at 3:04 pm on Friday. The victim was able to track her stolen car using an app on her cell phone, which helped the police locate Jones. When the police tried to pull him over, Jones attempted to flee and ended up crashing into a 2019 Audi sedan, a 2016 Audi SUV, and a 2024 Cadillac SUV.
Fortunately, the three individuals inside the Cadillac at the time of the crash, two men aged 30 and 56, and a 39-year-old woman, were not injured. However, Jones’s attempt to escape led to his car flipping over, resulting in him being hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
Jones was charged with several offenses, including grand larceny auto, criminal possession of stolen property, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, unauthorized use of a vehicle, reckless driving, and driving without a license.
The police investigation into the incident is ongoing, and Jones is expected to face further legal consequences for his actions. The stolen Porsche SUV has been recovered, and the victims involved in the crash are cooperating with authorities to provide additional information.
