“Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost delivered their signature blend of pop culture commentary on the Dec. 13 episode, touching on several topics that have piqued the interest of Variety readers. Let’s take a look at some of the standout jokes from the segment.

Trump’s recent Kennedy Center events were a prime target for Che and Jost’s sharp wit. The President hosted multiple events at the Kennedy Center, including an award ceremony honoring Sylvester Stallone, Gloria Gaynor, and rock band KISS, as well as a musical performance by The Village People. Che quipped, “Is Donald Trump a gay man from 1978?” The duo also joked about Trump’s comments on the proposed Netflix-Warner Brothers Discovery merger, with Netflix offering Trump a night with the ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ in response.

The Golden Globe nominations also provided fodder for Che and Jost’s humor. They highlighted the movie ‘One Battle After Another’ receiving the most nominations, while joking about Che’s fictional film ‘Hold Up, Medea Got a Daughter?’ receiving the least.

One of the standout moments from the segment was Jane Wickline’s song about the young cast of “Stranger Things,” with Jost providing comedic interjections. The song humorously portrayed the child actors as a potential threat, with references to AI and the environment. Jost’s confusion and disbelief added to the comedic effect, as Wickline painted a surreal picture of the young stars plotting to seize the next election.

The segment concluded with a humorous exchange about the perceived danger of the “Stranger Things” kids, with Wickline proposing a bizarre plan to capture and brainwash them. Jost’s incredulous responses and the absurdity of Wickline’s plan added to the humor of the bit.
