Travelers at Denver International Airport are advised to expect flight delays on Wednesday afternoon due to the arrival of strong winds in the metro area and Eastern Plains.

By 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 81 flights at DIA were delayed and 3 were canceled, as reported by flight tracking software FlightAware.

The Federal Aviation Administration has indicated that ground stops and delays are likely at the Denver airport after 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Weather forecasts from the National Weather Service show that steady winds up to 25 mph and wind gusts reaching 40 mph are expected at the airport at that time.

As of 12:30 p.m., the delays at Denver included 28 Southwest flights, 23 United flights, and 19 SkyWest flights. Several other airlines also experienced delays.
