The Nevada Museum of Art is excited to announce the upcoming 2026 Art + Environment Summit: Under Pressure, set to take place in Reno, Nevada from April 16-18, 2026. This three-day gathering will bring together a diverse group of artists, writers, Indigenous leaders, designers, and interdisciplinary thinkers to explore the pressing question of how to create a sustainable future in the face of a rapidly changing climate.

The Summit will coincide with the museum’s major exhibition, Into the Time Horizon, and will feature presentations and discussions led by prominent figures such as Kim Stanley Robinson, Rose B. Simpson, Cannupa Hanska Luger, and the Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI). These speakers will offer original proposals for building regenerative and resilient societies, while Jeffrey Gibson will lead a conversation on Indigenous Futures with Judith Lowry and Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun. Other highlights include discussions on eco-feminist legacies, performances by LaToya Ruby Frazier and Katie Paterson, poetry readings by Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner, and biophonic soundscapes by Dr. Bernie Krauss.

The Summit has a history of catalyzing important outcomes, such as Ugo Rondinone’s installation Seven Magic Mountains in Las Vegas, Trevor Paglen’s Orbital Reflector satellite, and Rem Koolhaas’ research at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. This year’s event promises to continue this legacy with presentations by Margaret Levi, Brittany Nicole Cox, Apsara DiQuinzio, and many others.

“We are honored to host this monumental dialogue and exchange of ideas that offers concrete solutions and hope for our planet’s future,” said Apsara DiQuinzio, Nevada Museum of Art chief curator and Summit organizer. The event will also feature original performance, movement, and sound works by Ginger Dunnill, Madison Olandt, Eric-Paul Riege, and Laura Ortman.
