Woman Accused of Battering Four More Victims on CTA Less Than 24 Hours After Jail Release
A woman with a notorious history of attacking people on the CTA is facing allegations of battering four more victims in the Loop this week, some with a bottle, shortly after walking out of jail for previous attacks.
Authorities revealed that two of the recent victims were on the Red Line, while two others were grandparents taking their grandson to a holiday lunch at the Walnut Room inside Macy’s when they were assaulted on a store escalator, as per prosecutors.
Jada Beatty, 26, appeared in court on Wednesday morning and was ordered detained by Judge Deidre Dyer.
Her record on public transit dates back several years. In August 2022, she was charged with aggravated battery of a transit employee after throwing a full plastic Sprite bottle that struck a CTA bus driver in the jaw near the 3400 block of South Martin Luther King Drive.
She pleaded guilty to a reduced misdemeanor battery charge a year later and received 12 months of social service supervision from Judge Michael McHale.
However, her supervision did not go as planned.
On May 1, 2024, she struck a 20-year-old woman in the face on a platform at the Roosevelt CTA station, causing the victim to fall to the ground. Beatty was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated battery of a transit passenger and aggravated battery in a public place.
The following day, she pleaded guilty and received a two-year sentence from Judge McHale. With credit for time spent on electronic monitoring and sentence reduction, she was released the same day.
Her series of arrests continued.
Early on October 6, she faced two counts of misdemeanor battery after pushing a 27-year-old Atlanta woman down several stairs at the Chicago-State Red Line station.
The victims stated that Beatty got aggressive when they refused to give her a cigarette, leading to the altercation. Beatty claimed they were talking about her past abuse, which provoked her to shove them, according to prosecutors.
While on pretrial release in that case, she found herself behind bars again.
Shortly after 10 a.m. on November 6, two 41-year-old women reported that Beatty threatened them at the Clark-Division Red Line station by raising her fist and uttering, “I’m gonna whoop y’all a**.”
She was charged with aggravated assault of a transit passenger and assault.
Judges Rivanda Doss Beal and Theresa Smith Conyers decided to keep her in custody for violating the terms of her release, and Beatty remained in jail until Monday.
On that day, she pleaded guilty in the October case, and the November assault charges were dropped, as per court records. Judge Donald Panarese Jr sentenced her to 80 days, but with credit for jail time and the state’s sentence reduction, she was released the same day.
Unfortunately, less than 24 hours later, she allegedly attacked four more individuals in the Loop.
At around 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, a 19-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida, was riding a northbound Red Line train that stopped at the State-Lake station.
Prosecutors claimed that Beatty boarded the train, approached the woman, and repeatedly struck her in the head with a wine bottle before exiting and boarding a southbound train.
Beatty then allegedly walked through the southbound train and hit a 32-year-old woman on the forehead with a glass bottle, causing a significant bleeding laceration, before fleeing the scene.
Approximately 30 minutes after the train incidents, a 63-year-old Elmhurst woman, her 66-year-old husband, and their grandson arrived at Macy’s for a midday reservation at the Walnut Room.
As the family rode an escalator to the 6th floor, Beatty reportedly wedged herself between the husband and wife. She struck the husband twice in the head with a wine bottle, grabbed his glasses, and threw them. When the woman tried to intervene, Beatty hit her in the face, according to prosecutors.
Chicago police officers apprehended Beatty minutes later on the Wabash Avenue side of the Macy’s building.
While being transported to the station, Beatty spontaneously admitted to one of the officers, “I did hit that b****,” according to prosecutors.
