David Leavy, a key figure in Warner Bros. Discovery, has announced his departure from the company after an impressive tenure of more than two decades. In a heartfelt note to colleagues, Leavy reflected on his time at Discovery, which began in 2000 when the company was a small cable entity based in Bethesda, MD. Over the years, he witnessed the remarkable growth and transformation of Discovery into a global powerhouse, thanks to the hard work and dedication of its employees.

During his time at Discovery, Leavy played a pivotal role in managing communications as the company expanded its presence in the media industry. He oversaw key acquisitions, including Scripps Networks and WarnerMedia, which significantly boosted Discovery’s influence and reach. In 2023, Leavy took on a new challenge when he was appointed to oversee business operations at CNN under then-CEO Chris Licht. This move highlighted Leavy’s versatility and strategic acumen in navigating different sectors within the media landscape.

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, praised Leavy for his exceptional leadership and contribution to the company. Zaslav expressed confidence in Leavy’s decision to embark on a new chapter in his career, emphasizing Leavy’s qualities as a collaborative and visionary executive. Leavy is set to depart from Warner Bros. Discovery at the end of 2025, marking the end of an era for the company.

As he looks towards the future, Leavy plans to take some time off before exploring new opportunities that may align with his interests in media, politics, or other fields. His departure comes at a time of transition for Warner Bros. Discovery, as the company continues to evolve its structure and strategy for the future. Leavy’s legacy at Discovery will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact, as he moves on to new endeavors with his trademark leadership and strategic prowess.
