Smash-and-Grab Burglars Foiled in Attempted Robbery Near Magnificent Mile
CHICAGO — A group of smash-and-grab burglars attempted to break into luxury boutiques near the Magnificent Mile on Sunday morning but were thwarted by the stores’ security measures. Reports indicate that the security glass and possibly an armed guard prevented the burglars from gaining entry.
A witness living nearby described the scene, stating, “Heard some banging and saw a group of people that had jumped out of a car trying to break the windows of Dior, I’m not sure with what.” The witness mentioned that one of the armed security guards at the store seemed to scare off the burglars, who quickly fled empty-handed.
Police responded to calls reporting that four masked men attempted to break into Dior and Amiri, with the latter’s reinforced glass preventing the burglars from gaining access. The witness also noted that Dior had recently reinforced its security doors following a previous attempted robbery.
Despite the failed attempt, the burglars managed to damage the glass at Amiri before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no items were stolen, and no injuries were reported.
