A winter storm is brewing over Colorado’s north and central mountains, with forecasters from the National Weather Service predicting up to a foot of snow. Travel is expected to be challenging at high elevations due to the snowy conditions.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until midnight for the Interstate 70 mountain corridor, including popular areas such as Eisenhower Tunnel, Winter Park, and Breckenridge, as well as Cameron, Berthoud, Rabbit Ears, and Willow Creek passes.

Forecasters anticipate up to 6 inches of snow along the I-70 corridor, with some areas possibly receiving up to 8 inches. The Park Range, located north of Rabbit Ears Pass, could see up to a foot of snow, along with blowing snow and wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph, particularly in the early part of the day.

The advisory warns that travel may be difficult across the mountain passes, especially during the morning when the heaviest snowfall is expected. However, conditions are projected to improve in the coming week, with the possibility of more winter weather in the mountains later on.
