James Ransone, a talented American actor known for his roles in popular TV shows and movies, tragically passed away at the age of 46. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Ransone died by hanging on Friday.

One of Ransone’s most notable roles was as Ziggy Sobotka in “The Wire.” He portrayed the character of Ziggy, a dock worker who gets involved in petty crime, in 12 episodes of the show’s second season. Ziggy’s descent into criminal activity and eventual confession to a murder showcased Ransone’s acting range and talent.

Ransone also starred in the HBO mini-series “Generation Kill,” where he played the role of real-life marine Cpl. Josh Ray Person. The series followed a Rolling Stone reporter embedded with the 1st Recon Marines and received critical acclaim for its portrayal of the Iraq War.

In 2019, Ransone took on the role of the older version of Eddie Kaspbrak in “It: Chapter Two,” a sequel to the popular horror film based on Stephen King’s novel. His recent film credits include “Black Phone 2,” “V/H/S/85,” “Small Engine Repair,” and “What We Found.” On the television front, Ransone appeared in shows like “Poker Face,” “Seal Team,” “50 States of Fright,” and “The First.”

Born in Baltimore in 1979, Ransone attended the Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Maryland before making his mark in the entertainment industry. His breakout role came in the 2002 teen drama “Ken Park,” which led to his memorable performance in “The Wire” and subsequent success in both TV and film.
