England coach Brendon McCullum faced heavy backlash from former players and captains following his team’s devastating Ashes defeat by Australia. The hosts secured an 82-run victory in the third Ashes test at Adelaide Oval, clinching the urn with two matches remaining.

After consecutive defeats in Perth and Brisbane, England has now lost the Ashes in just three matches for the fourth tour in a row, marking a total of 16 losses out of their last 18 tests in Australia. The dismal performance has shattered any hopes of success for England, who were initially considered favorites at the start of the series.

In a scathing critique for The Telegraph, former England player Geoffrey Boycott criticized the high-risk strategy adopted by the tourists under McCullum and captain Ben Stokes. Boycott emphasized the need for a change in tactics, stating that the current approach has reached its limit. He called for a change in coaching staff and urged Stokes to reconsider his batting approach to enhance the team’s performance.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also expressed his disappointment in the team’s performance, highlighting the lack of preparation and intense cricket experience prior to the Ashes series. Vaughan emphasized that significant changes are necessary following such a humiliating defeat, labeling it as one of the worst he has witnessed in Australia.

The criticism directed towards the England team underscores the urgent need for a strategic overhaul to improve their chances in future matches. The resounding defeat in the Ashes series serves as a wake-up call for England to reassess their approach and make necessary adjustments to revitalize their performance on the cricket field.
