Venus Williams Opens Up About Her Journey with Adenomyoma and Finding Love
It was a tumultuous time for tennis star Venus Williams, who just 10 days after a difficult diagnosis of adenomyoma found herself feeling overwhelmed and lost in search of treatment options. Despite the challenges she faced, Venus found unexpected support in her now-husband, Andrea, who quickly stepped in to help connect her with a doctor in Italy for surgery. “It was so early in our relationship, but we were going through a lot, and he supported me,” she recalls. With Andrea by her side, Venus underwent surgery in Italy, grateful that she had frozen her eggs years prior. “I had surgery a month after Andrea and I met. It was crazy, but that’s how we met,” she shares.
Just six months after her surgery, Venus and Andrea got engaged on January 31, 2025, in the picturesque setting of Tuscany. Reflecting on the romantic proposal, Venus remembers a day filled with relaxation in thermal waters and couples massages before Andrea surprised her with a heartfelt proposal under the starlit sky. “I couldn’t stop jumping up and down and laughing and smiling because that’s what I do when I win big matches,” she says. “I was thinking to myself, Yes, yes, yes!”
The couple’s first wedding took place on September 18 in Ischia, Italy, fulfilling their dream of exchanging vows in the romantic Italian countryside. However, due to time constraints with paperwork, Venus and Andrea decided to have a second wedding in Palm Beach, Florida, to honor Venus’s roots. Planned by Jennifer Zabinski of JZ Events, the week-long celebration leading up to the ceremony was filled with intimate gatherings and meaningful moments shared with close family and friends.
Despite the challenges Venus faced with her health, she found love and unwavering support in Andrea, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Their journey from a chance meeting in the midst of a medical crisis to a joyful wedding celebration is a testament to the power of love and resilience in the face of adversity.
