President Trump took to Truth Social in the wee hours of Wednesday morning to unleash a scathing attack on late-night host Stephen Colbert, branding him a “dead man walking” and urging CBS to “put him to sleep” as a humanitarian gesture.
In a fiery post, Trump criticized Colbert for his perceived lack of talent and show business acumen, claiming that his ratings were plummeting as he ran on “hatred and fumes.” The former president even went as far as questioning which network had the worst late-night host, lambasting them for their high salaries, lack of talent, and abysmally low ratings.
Trump also raised concerns about the overwhelmingly negative coverage of him on network newscasts and late-night shows, suggesting that their broadcast licenses should be terminated if they continue to paint him and the Republican Party in a negative light.
The feud between Trump and Colbert escalated after CBS aired a rerun of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” following the broadcast of “The Kennedy Center Honors,” which was hosted by the president. Colbert’s show is slated to end in May 2026, with CBS citing financial reasons for the decision.
Trump celebrated Colbert’s impending departure in July, applauding the network’s decision and predicting that other late-night hosts like Jimmy Kimmel were next in line for the axe. He singled out Greg Gutfeld as a superior alternative, taking swipes at Kimmel and NBC’s “Moron” host in the process.
Kimmel faced a suspension from ABC in September for controversial remarks, while Trump criticized Seth Meyers of “Late Night With Seth Meyers” for his alleged “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and lack of talent in November.
