JS’s Startup Battlefield pitch contest is an annual event that attracts thousands of applicants vying for a chance to win the coveted Startup Battlefield Cup and a cash prize of $100,000. While only the top 20 contenders get to compete on the main stage, the remaining 180 startups showcased impressive innovations in the agtech and food tech sectors.

Among the standout startups in the competition were Äio, Aquawise, Clave, CredoSense, Forte Biotech, Genesis, Greeny Solutions, Instacrops, Kadeya, MUI-Robotics, Shin Starr Robotics, Tensorfield Agriculture, Unibaio, and Verley. Each of these companies presented unique solutions to challenges in agriculture and food technology.

Äio caught the attention of judges with its method of producing edible fat from agricultural waste, using a strain of yeast to convert sawdust into a fat suitable for food and cosmetics. Aquawise, on the other hand, offered AI-powered water-quality monitoring for shrimp and fish farms using satellite imagery, providing real-time insights and predictive analytics without the need for expensive sensors.

Clave stood out for its AI agents that help fast-food restaurant franchises better interact with their data, enabling them to analyze historical and real-time store data to develop promotions that increase sales. CredoSense’s AI-powered portable plant diagnostic system also impressed the judges by offering a comprehensive solution for measuring crop health in a compact, low-power device.

Forte Biotech’s patented technology for testing illnesses among prawns in fish farms, developed in partnership with the National University of Singapore, was recognized for its ability to quickly diagnose common diseases without expert intervention. Genesis’ business intelligence platform for soil data and Greeny Solutions’ AI-powered software for indoor commercial farming both showcased innovative approaches to improving agricultural practices.

Instacrops utilized AI, IoT sensors, and satellite imagery to monitor and optimize farming fields, while Kadeya operated beverage vending stations for offices using reusable bottles, eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles. MUI-Robotics developed AI scent detection for robots, opening up possibilities for multisensory robotics applications in various industries.

Shin Starr Robotics’ autonomous kitchens that automate food preparation for meal delivery and Tensorfield Agriculture’s AI-powered robotics for identifying and killing weeds without pesticides in densely packed crop beds were also recognized for their innovative solutions. Unibaio’s biodegradable polymers for delivering agrochemicals efficiently and Verley’s precision fermentation technology for manufacturing bioidentical dairy proteins were highlighted for their environmental sustainability efforts.

Overall, the Startup Battlefield showcased a diverse range of startups pushing the boundaries of innovation in agtech and food tech, demonstrating the potential for technology to revolutionize the agriculture and food industries.
