A devastating tragedy struck a young family of four on Highway 99 in Fort Bend County, Texas. The family was on their way home from a Christmas party when a wrong-way alleged drunken driver crashed into their vehicle, resulting in the deaths of the mother, father, and 5-year-old sister. The only survivor of the horrific crash was a 3-year-old boy named Dieguito, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, a 27-year-old teacher, and her daughter Camila Pena, 5, tragically lost their lives at the scene of the accident. The father, Diego Pena Jr., 26, also sustained critical injuries and passed away in the hospital. Dieguito, described as a sweet and innocent boy, is currently in critical but stable condition as he continues to fight for recovery.

The family’s heartbreaking story has touched the hearts of many, prompting a GoFundMe campaign to support the now-orphaned toddler. Dieguito lost the people who loved and protected him in an instant, leaving him with a long road to recovery both emotionally and physically.

The driver of the other vehicle, 27-year-old Majesti Faith Lee, was also injured in the crash and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Lee was arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter and intoxication assault, as alcohol was determined to be a factor in the accident. She is currently held at the Fort Bend County Jail on a $1,050,000 bond.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan expressed his condolences to the family, emphasizing the importance of responsible choices behind the wheel to prevent such tragic incidents. The loss of Contreras, a beloved fourth-grade teacher, and Pena Jr., a dedicated handyman, has left a void in the community and in the hearts of their loved ones.

As the family mourns the loss of three cherished members, the focus remains on supporting Dieguito in his recovery journey. The impact of impaired driving has once again highlighted the need for awareness and accountability on the roads to prevent further tragedies like this one.
