The second season of the TGL (Tour Golf League) kicked off on Sunday, December 28, with a thrilling match between last year’s finalists, Atlanta Drive Golf Club and New York Golf Club. However, Atlanta Drive had to make some changes in their lineup, featuring Chris Gotterup and Corey Conners as replacements for their regular players.
In the season opener, Atlanta Drive fielded Billy Horschel, Chris Gotterup, and Corey Conners, while New York GC had Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young, and Matt Fitzpatrick. Unfortunately, Atlanta Drive was missing Justin Thomas, who was recovering from surgery, as well as two other players who were out due to injury.
The official statement from Atlanta Drive GC and TGL announced the inclusion of Chris Gotterup and Corey Conners as alternates for the match against New York Golf Club. It was mentioned that Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover were unavailable due to injury, while Justin Thomas was recovering from back surgery.
In terms of performance, Gotterup managed to earn one point in two singles matches, while Conners lost both of his debut match points. Despite the mixed results, both players shared their excitement about competing in the TGL during the post-round interview.
Conners described the experience as a blast with an electric atmosphere, reminiscing about the team dynamic and camaraderie. Gotterup also expressed his excitement and nerves, highlighting the unique thrill of playing in a team setting and the support from his teammates.
Looking ahead, Atlanta Drive is scheduled to face Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf Club on January 7 in their next match. The team will be aiming to bounce back from their season opener and secure a win against tough competition.
Overall, the TGL continues to provide an exciting platform for professional golfers to showcase their skills in a team format, and both Chris Gotterup and Corey Conners are looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the season.
