NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE) is a prominent player in the athletic footwear, apparel, equipment, and accessories industry, operating on a global scale. Despite being listed as one of the Best Quality Stocks to Buy Before 2026, the company faced a setback when its share price plummeted by more than 10.8% following the release of its fiscal Q2 2026 earnings on December 18.

In a surprising turn of events, NIKE, Inc. managed to exceed expectations during the quarter, with its revenue growing by 0.59% year-over-year to $12.43 billion, surpassing estimates by $218.31 million. The company also outperformed with an EPS of $0.53, beating expectations by $0.16. However, the decline in investor sentiment can be attributed to the company’s gross profit margins taking a hit, declining by 300 basis points, and a significant 17% drop in China Sales. On a positive note, the wholesale revenue in North America saw a 20% increase, indicating progress in repairing relationships with retail partners.

Despite the mixed results, analysts remain cautiously optimistic about NIKE, Inc.’s future prospects. Following the earnings release, Paul Lejuez from Citi reiterated a Hold rating on the stock and lowered the price target from $70 to $65. Similarly, Jay Sole from UBS also maintained a Hold rating and decreased the price target from $71 to $65. Sole highlighted that the company’s turnaround seems to be taking longer than anticipated, suggesting a need for more time to resize inventory. However, he expects NIKE, Inc. to return to mid-single-digit percentage sales growth and achieve approximately a 10% EBIT margin in the long run.
