The Lindenhurst community came together in a heartfelt vigil on Monday night to mourn the tragic loss of Edeedson Cine, a beloved CVS worker who was senselessly killed on Christmas Day. The vigil, attended by over 200 mourners, was a somber gathering where tears were shed, and apologies were offered by Suffolk’s top cop, Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina.

Catalina, visibly emotional, expressed his deep regret for failing to prevent the tragedy and issued a heartfelt apology to Cine’s family. Standing in front of the crowd at Lindenhurst Village Square, he acknowledged his responsibility to ensure such incidents do not occur and extended his condolences to the grieving family.

The 23-year-old victim’s father, Cine Sr., who displayed incredible strength and faith throughout the ordeal, shared words of forgiveness towards the accused perpetrator, John Pilaccio. Despite the unimaginable loss, Cine Sr. emphasized the power of love and forgiveness, stating that he holds no hatred towards Pilaccio.

Catalina affirmed his commitment to work with Suffolk DA Ray Tierney to ensure that Pilaccio faces justice for his heinous actions and is sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison. The assailant allegedly entered the CVS on Christmas Day, demanding money from Cine, who bravely refused before being fatally stabbed in the chest.

During the vigil, attendees shared memories of Cine’s selfless and kind-hearted nature. One woman, identified as his best friend, tearfully described him as undeserving of such a tragic fate. A young boy named Daniel recounted a personal encounter with Cine, where the CVS worker generously paid for his purchase when he fell short on money, leaving a lasting impression on the boy.

The outpouring of support and remembrance at the vigil highlighted the impact Cine had on the community, with many echoing sentiments of admiration for his compassion and generosity. As the Lindenhurst community mourns the loss of a bright young soul, they also celebrate the legacy of Edeedson Cine Jr., a beacon of kindness and goodwill in their midst.
