Washington Post Owner Jeff Bezos Defends Decision Not to Endorse Presidential Candidate

Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post, recently defended his publication’s choice not to endorse a presidential candidate ahead of the upcoming election. He believes that political endorsements can create a perception of bias and therefore, the newspaper has decided to end its longstanding practice of endorsing candidates for the White House. In an op-ed, Bezos argues that this decision is principled and the right one to make.

Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos defended his publication’s decision not to back a presidential candidate ahead of the Nov. 5 election, insisting political endorsements “create a perception of bias.”

Bezos emphasized that presidential endorsements do not influence undecided voters and instead, they create a perception of bias and non-independence. The Washington Post’s CEO and Publisher, Will Lewis, announced that the publication will not be endorsing a candidate for president, sparking outrage both inside and outside the newsroom.
