A notorious 23-year-old Mexican gang leader, Michelle Angelica Pineda, also known as “La Chely,” has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for her heinous crimes involving brutal killings and offering victims’ hearts as sacrifices to the pagan deity of death, Santa Muerte. The sentence was handed down in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, following a trial where Pineda was found guilty of extreme acts of violence, including dismembering bodies and leaving their hearts at Santa Muerte altars.

Pineda’s reign of terror came to an end when she was apprehended by the FBI and Customs and Border Protection at a motel in El Paso last year. At just 22 years old, she was already a key player in a major drug trafficking operation along the border, working for the Artistas Asesinos, or Doble A Cartel, which is known to collaborate with the infamous Sinaloa Cartel. Authorities discovered a cache of weapons, drugs like fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines, and Xanax in her possession at the time of her arrest.

The young criminal mastermind was wanted for multiple murders in Mexico, including a double homicide in 2023 and the gruesome killing of a man whose mutilated body was found in JuƔrez in 2024. These crimes, along with those committed by her accomplices, led to the lengthy prison sentence handed down to Pineda.

Jarod Brown, the FBI’s Special Agent in Charge in El Paso, emphasized the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies to prevent individuals like Pineda from spreading violence and drugs into communities. The arrest and prosecution of Pineda serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and protect innocent lives.

The case of Michelle Angelica Pineda, the ruthless gang queenpin, highlights the dark underbelly of criminal networks operating along the border and the dedication of law enforcement agencies to bring perpetrators to justice. The sentence imposed on Pineda serves as a warning to others involved in illegal activities that their actions will not go unpunished.
