Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Organized Retail Crime Unit recently made a significant discovery, recovering over $2 million in stolen merchandise from a warehouse in Oak Forest. This breakthrough came after insurance company investigators flagged a stolen cargo trailer filled with products from Target, which had been taken from a Joliet facility on December 13. With the help of GPS trackers, authorities were led to the warehouse located in the 4100 block of 166th Street.

Upon arriving at the warehouse, sheriff’s office investigators and insurance representatives met with the facility’s owner, who initially denied the presence of the stolen Target merchandise. However, after gaining consent for a walkthrough of the premises, investigators stumbled upon pallets of merchandise that appeared to be stolen, including Dyson products, Wahl hair clippers, and Nike shoes.

Following the discovery, investigators obtained a search warrant and returned to the warehouse for a more thorough inspection. It was determined that the Dyson products had been stolen during transportation from California to Kentucky, while the Wahl hair clippers were reported stolen in Whiteside County. The Nike merchandise’s last known location was traced back to California.

In addition to the recovered items, authorities found merchandise believed to be stolen from various other retailers and manufacturers, such as Amazon, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Ninja and Shark, NOCO, Old Navy, TJX, Ulta, Victoria’s Secret, and Walmart. Despite the significant progress made in the case, the investigation remains active and ongoing, with no charges filed at this time.

This groundbreaking operation underscores the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and private entities in combating organized retail crime. The successful recovery of stolen merchandise worth millions of dollars serves as a testament to the dedication and expertise of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Organized Retail Crime Unit.
