The Breakthrough Listen project recently conducted a dedicated scan for signs of radio-transmitting technology in the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, only to find cometary radio silence. Using the 100-meter Green Bank Telescope, the team listened for several hours to the comet before it reached perigee on December 19, 2025. Despite hearing many signals across a wide range of radio frequencies, none were from the comet itself.

3I/ATLAS was discovered on July 1, 2025, and calculations showed that it originated from outside the Solar System. As it made its closest approach to the Sun in late October and then to Earth in December, astronomers seized the opportunity to observe it up close. A team led by astronomer Ben Jacobson-Bell of the University of California, Berkeley deployed the Green Bank Telescope to listen to the comet for five hours on December 18.

The observations alternated between pointing at the comet and other patches of sky in an ABACAD arrangement every five minutes. After filtering out signals from human technology on and around Earth, the researchers were left with nine candidate radio signals. Further analysis revealed that these signals were radio-frequency interference from Earth-based sources, dashing hopes of detecting alien technology on the comet.

While the absence of alien signals does not definitively rule out the possibility of extraterrestrial technology on 3I/ATLAS, all other evidence points to it being a comet. NASA associate administrator Amit Kshatriya emphasized that the object behaves like a comet and is consistent with our understanding of comets, despite its interstellar origin.

Although the search for alien technology yielded no results, the endeavor was crucial for scientific exploration. Even finding nothing provides valuable information and contributes to our understanding of the Universe. Observations like these not only inform scientists but also engage the public in the excitement of discovery and the possibilities that lie beyond our current knowledge.

From artificial intelligence to virtual reality, there is no shortage of cutting-edge technologies that are shaping the way we live, work, and interact with the world around us.

One of the most exciting developments in technology in recent years is the rise of blockchain technology. Originally created as the underlying technology behind the digital currency Bitcoin, blockchain has since evolved into a powerful tool that has the potential to revolutionize a wide range of industries.

At its core, blockchain is a decentralized, distributed ledger that records transactions across a network of computers. Each transaction is recorded in a “block,” which is then added to a chain of blocks in a sequential order. This creates a permanent and unalterable record of all transactions, which is stored on multiple computers in the network, making it extremely secure and resistant to tampering.

One of the key benefits of blockchain technology is its transparency and immutability. Because each transaction is recorded on a public ledger that is accessible to anyone in the network, there is a high level of transparency and accountability in all transactions. This can help to prevent fraud and ensure that all parties involved in a transaction are held accountable for their actions.

Another major advantage of blockchain technology is its security. Because the data is stored on multiple computers in the network, it is virtually impossible for hackers to tamper with or alter the information contained in the blockchain. This makes blockchain an ideal solution for industries that require high levels of security, such as finance, healthcare, and supply chain management.

In addition to its security and transparency, blockchain technology also has the potential to streamline and simplify a wide range of processes. By eliminating the need for intermediaries and middlemen in transactions, blockchain can reduce costs, increase efficiency, and speed up the process of conducting business.

One industry that has been particularly impacted by blockchain technology is the financial sector. Banks and financial institutions are increasingly turning to blockchain to streamline their processes, reduce costs, and improve security. In fact, some experts believe that blockchain has the potential to completely disrupt the traditional banking industry by providing a more efficient and secure alternative to traditional banking systems.

Blockchain technology is also being used in other industries, such as healthcare, supply chain management, and real estate. In healthcare, blockchain can help to securely store and share patient data, while in supply chain management, it can track the movement of goods from manufacturers to consumers. In real estate, blockchain can streamline the process of buying and selling property by securely recording and verifying ownership records.

As blockchain technology continues to evolve and mature, it is likely that we will see even more industries adopting this revolutionary technology. With its unparalleled security, transparency, and efficiency, blockchain has the potential to transform the way we conduct business and interact with the world around us. It is truly an exciting time to be a part of the blockchain revolution.
