Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) strongly criticized President Donald Trump’s statement that he will take control of Venezuela following a military strike on the country and the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
“Is anyone going to just stop for a second and be honest? This is insane. What the hell are we doing?” Moulton, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, expressed on CNN.

Maduro has been indicted on various charges, including narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy, and will face trial in the U.S, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi in an announcement. In the announcement, she referred to Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, as “alleged international narco traffickers.”
Trump stated to reporters on Saturday that the U.S. will oversee Venezuela until a “safe, proper, and judicious transition” can occur.
“We don’t want to end up with a similar situation as we have had for many years,” Trump told reporters. “We will essentially run it.”
Earlier that day, he mentioned to Fox News that the U.S will have a strong presence in Venezuela’s oil industry.
Moulton informed CNN anchor Erin Burnett, “We have numerous issues in America currently, and invading, occupying, managing Venezuela does not resolve any of them.”
