Samsung’s Wearable Devices to Detect Early Signs of Dementia

Samsung is making strides in the health tech space by developing a way for its wearable devices to detect early signs of dementia. This groundbreaking development was unveiled at Samsung’s First Look event during CES 2026.

According to Samsung, their upcoming wearable devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 and Samsung Galaxy Ring will soon have the capability to monitor subtle changes in mobility, speech, and engagement that could indicate long-term cognitive changes.

Praveen Raja, Samsung’s Vice President and Head of Digital Health, explained that features like detecting slurred speech during interactions with Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant, will be possible with devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring.

In addition to detecting speech patterns, these wearable devices will also be able to identify slower movements and analyze interactions with other smart home devices. The goal is to provide early warnings for users to seek medical assistance rather than providing a full diagnosis.

Previously rumored as part of a new “Brain Health” feature, this development is nearing completion. Reports suggest that the feature will also include brain training exercises to reduce the risk of developing dementia. Samsung Knox technology will ensure that sensitive health data is stored securely on the device rather than in the cloud.
