Celebrating the Epiphany: A Reflection on Faith and Light
Today, I join countless Christians across the United States and beyond in commemorating the Epiphany—a festive occasion that honors the miraculous revelation of Jesus Christ as the Redeemer, the Prince of Peace, and the world’s Savior.
This sacred celebration ranks among the oldest and most revered days within the Christian tradition. Long before Jesus walked the earth, the prophet Isaiah prophesied the miracle of the Epiphany, declaring in scripture, “Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance.” This ancient prophecy reached its fulfillment when three wise men embarked on a journey from the east, guided by a brilliant star towards the humble stable housing the newborn Son of God.
The wise men’s expedition first brought them to King Herod in Jerusalem, where they inquired, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews?” After being dismissed by Herod, they continued their quest to the modest town of Bethlehem, led by the celestial sign that directed them to the Messiah. As the scriptures recount, “they were overjoyed” upon seeing the star. Their joy magnified when they entered the birthplace of God Himself—who, through an unparalleled act of love, chose to inhabit human form and dwell among His creation. In reverent adoration, the wise men presented gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh—each symbolizing Christ’s regal authority, divinity, and mission as humanity’s Savior.
Just as the star once illuminated the night sky, the light of Christ continues to pierce through the shadows of despair. Daily, the life and teachings of Jesus beckon all people and nations to embrace truth and courage.
In the past year, the peace, hope, and love embodied by Jesus Christ have profoundly impacted our nation and the world. We are witnessing the dawn of a new era of peace unfold before our eyes. Faith in God is experiencing a resurgence across American soil, and religious freedom is reclaiming its rightful place as a cornerstone of our society. As we mark 250 years of the United States—a nation built on faith, sacrifice, and unwavering trust in divine providence—we express our gratitude to our Creator for His remarkable blessings and beseech a continued outpouring of grace upon our nation and the globe.
More than two millennia after His birth, Jesus Christ remains a beacon of hope for our country and all humanity. This Epiphany, the First Lady and I join fellow Christians in prayer that the light of Jesus Christ will guide us toward a future enriched with justice, generosity, prosperity, and peace.
