Groundbreaking Appointment: First Woman to Tackle U.S. Drug Control Policy

In a closely contested decision, the United States Senate has confirmed Sara Carter as the 10th Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, commonly known as the “Drug Czar,” with a narrow 52-48 vote. Nominated by President Trump, Carter is expected to spearhead the administration’s efforts in combating the proliferation of illicit drugs and dismantling drug cartels.

Following her confirmation, Director Carter released a statement reflecting her commitment to this pivotal role:

“I am deeply honored to join President Trump’s Administration as the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. In this capacity, I pledge to work relentlessly toward a safer, healthier America where living drug-free is not just a dream, but a reality. This marks a significant shift in our national strategy. Under President Trump’s leadership, we will prioritize the well-being of the American people, asserting our fundamental right to lead healthy lives. We will confront the narco-terrorists who threaten this right, those who are responsible for the tragic deaths of tens of thousands of Americans annually. Their days of operating without consequence must end. Additionally, I am committed to ensuring that every parent, family member, and child has access to the necessary resources to prevent and combat addiction. I stand with our courageous law enforcement professionals and with every family that has experienced the heartache of losing a loved one to overdose. This is my solemn promise to the American people.”

Director Carter arrives at the ONDCP with a wealth of experience as an investigative journalist, having spent years exposing drug cartels and tracing the intricate trafficking routes that span the U.S.-Mexico border. Her background equips her with a unique perspective on the challenges and intricacies of drug policy.
