Mexican National Indicted for Illegal Possession of Firearm Near U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agents

In a disturbing incident on November 8, 2025, a Mexican national illegally living in the United States was found to be in possession of a handgun that was fired near U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents during a large-scale enforcement operation in Little Village. The suspect, Hector Gomez, has a history of illegally crossing the border and was prohibited from owning a gun in the U.S. Despite this, he not only possessed a loaded pistol but also pointed it at a woman, demonstrating a complete disregard for the law and public safety.

Gomez, 45, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on two firearm counts related to the incident. The charges include illegal possession of a firearm as a previously convicted felon and illegal possession of a firearm as a foreign national with no lawful status in the United States.

Hector Gomez (Chicago Police Department)

According to the allegations, shots were fired from a black Jeep Wrangler near federal agents on South Kedzie Avenue during Operation Midway Blitz. While Gomez is not directly accused of firing those shots, he was later apprehended by Chicago police after witnesses reported him pointing a firearm at a woman in a separate incident.

When officers approached Gomez’s vehicle, they discovered a loaded handgun on his lap. The woman involved in the incident stated that Gomez had approached her while laughing and holding the gun in his hand. Ballistics analysis later linked the recovered firearm to the shots fired near the federal agents earlier in the day.

Following his arrest, Gomez initially provided false information to police but was later identified through fingerprint analysis. He admitted to being a Mexican citizen illegally residing in the United States and confessed to crossing the border unlawfully multiple times. Gomez also acknowledged his status as a convicted felon and his awareness of the prohibition against possessing firearms.

Court records indicate that Gomez was convicted of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in January 2025 and had been removed from the U.S. multiple times prior to this incident. Each firearm count against Gomez carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison. He is currently in federal custody and is scheduled to be arraigned on January 12.

This case highlights the dangers posed by individuals who flout immigration and gun laws, putting both law enforcement officers and the public at risk. It serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing existing laws to maintain public safety and uphold the integrity of the immigration system.
