The father-son duo, Eric McCormack and Finnigan, surprised audiences in the hit NBC series “The Hunting Party” by playing the same serial killer character. While both actors didn’t expect to share this role, they embraced the challenge and brought a unique dynamic to the show.

Eric, 62, who plays the present-day version of murderer Ron Simms in the series, was the first to join the cast. It didn’t take long for his 23-year-old son Finnigan to also sign on for the role. Finnigan, who had done some acting before but was relatively unknown to audiences, impressed the creators with his audition tape. The show, which premiered in 2025, follows investigators tracking down dangerous killers who have escaped from a top-secret prison.

In the season 2 premiere, Finnigan appears in flashbacks while Eric takes on the role of the killer. Despite initial concerns about being typecast as a serial killer, Finnigan found depth and empathy in his character. The father-son duo enjoyed collaborating on the shared role and discussing the nuances of their characters before filming.

Looking ahead, Eric and Finnigan expressed interest in working together on future projects. They discussed the possibility of starring in an indie film or a spinoff series as father and son crime solvers. Both actors found the experience of playing the same character in “The Hunting Party” to be special and are eager to continue collaborating in the future.

“The Hunting Party” airs on NBC on Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET, with new episodes available for streaming on Peacock the following day. The show has garnered attention for its unique concept and the compelling performances of Eric McCormack and Finnigan. As they continue to explore new opportunities in their careers, audiences can look forward to seeing more of this talented father-son duo on screen.
