During an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, President Donald Trump expressed that he would consider it “a great honor” to accept the (second-hand) Nobel Peace Prize that was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado last year. This statement quickly garnered mockery and criticism online.

Hannity highlighted that Machado was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts in promoting democracy in Venezuela. She dedicated the award to Trump when she received it and mentioned to Hannity that she intends to personally present him with the prize as a gesture of gratitude for his role in liberating her country through the U.S.-led operation that removed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Due to visit the U.S. next week, Machado, whose leadership abilities have been questioned by Trump in the past, is anticipated to meet with the President. Hannity inquired whether Trump would meet with her and accept “the Nobel Prize she wants to hand to you.”

Trump responded, “Well, I understand she’s coming in next week sometime, and I look forward to saying hello to her. And I’ve heard that she wants to do that. That would be a great honor.”

During the conversation, Trump reiterated his disputed assertion that he has played a role in resolving eight conflicts. He also criticized Norway, where the Nobel committee is based, labeling it a “very big embarrassment” for the country that he has not yet been awarded the prize. However, he admitted that he was unsure if Norway was directly involved in selecting the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Following these remarks, social media users ridiculed the idea of Trump accepting another person’s Nobel Peace Prize, deeming it “unspeakably pathetic” and “so humiliating.”
