An arrest warrant was issued by authorities in New Mexico on Friday for director and Emmy Award-winning actor Timothy Busfield in relation to a child sex abuse charge.
According to a criminal complaint filed by an investigator with the Albuquerque Police Department, a child alleged that Busfield touched him inappropriately on multiple occasions. These incidents reportedly took place on the set of the TV series “The Cleaning Lady,” which Busfield directed and acted in.
The child stated that the first incident occurred when he was 7 years old, with Busfield allegedly touching him three or four times. The abuse continued when the child was 8, with Busfield reportedly touching him five or six times.
Child Protective Services were informed by the child’s mother that the abuse took place between November 2022 and spring 2024.
Busfield’s attorney and agent did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.
The arrest warrant, signed by a judge, specifies two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor.
The complaint reveals that the child, identified only by initials, has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. He has reportedly experienced nightmares and fear related to Busfield’s actions.
Despite an investigation by Warner Bros., the production company of “The Cleaning Lady,” no corroborating evidence of the abuse allegations was found.
Busfield, known for his roles in “The West Wing,” “Thirtysomething,” and “Field of Dreams,” is married to actor Melissa Gilbert.
No immediate response was received from Gilbert’s publicist regarding the situation.
