The accused killer surgeon who has been charged in the murders of Ohio dentist Spencer Tepe and his wife, Monique, was identified after police tracked his vehicle through neighborhood surveillance close to the couple’s home, according to court documents.

Michael David McKee, a 39-year-old doctor from Chicago, was arrested in connection with the brutal killing of his ex-wife Monique, and her second husband, Spencer, in the upscale Columbus, Ohio neighborhood of Weinland Park.

It was McKee’s car that ultimately led authorities to him, as his vehicle was spotted near the murder scene on the night of the killings, approximately 325 miles away from his home in Rockford, Illinois. The car was seen arriving just before the homicides and leaving shortly after, later being found near McKee’s workplace.

Detectives uncovered evidence linking McKee to the vehicle, which ultimately led them to suspect him in the murders of Monique and Spencer Tepe. The couple had been married from 2015 until Monique filed for divorce in 2017, with the divorce reportedly being finalized amicably while McKee was living in Virginia.

McKee and Tepe did not have any children together, and no motive has been provided by the police for the shootings at this time. McKee was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, following a warrant issued for his arrest. He is due to be extradited to Columbus for a hearing on Monday.

The bodies of Spencer and Monique Tepe were discovered after one of Spencer’s colleagues became concerned when he failed to show up for work. The couple’s two children, ages 1 and 4, were found crying inside the home when a friend checked on the family, prompting a call to 911.

Surveillance footage of a hooded figure walking near the couple’s home around the time of the murders was released by Columbus Police, though it remains unclear if the individual in the video is Michael David McKee.

As the investigation continues, more details may emerge surrounding the tragic deaths of Spencer and Monique Tepe, shedding light on the events leading up to the shocking crime.
