In a remarkable display of political fundraising prowess, Senator John Cornyn has amassed $7 million during the fourth quarter of his reelection campaign, marking the highest total of his political career. This impressive figure comes as the Republican faces a contentious primary battle.

According to a fundraising report shared exclusively with POLITICO, Cornyn now boasts over $15 million in cash reserves, a sum that includes contributions from his two joint fundraising committees. This amount is more than double what he raised in the third quarter of 2025, showcasing a significant uptick in his campaign’s financial backing.

The four-term senator is gearing up for a showdown against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Representative Wesley Hunt. Current polling indicates a tight contest between Cornyn and Paxton, with Hunt trailing in third place as the early March primary approaches.

Cornyn has strategically directed funds toward attacking Paxton, a firebrand within the conservative movement who enjoys substantial support among the MAGA base in Texas. However, Paxton’s candidacy is not without its complications; he faces multiple investigations at both state and federal levels, and his personal life has been thrust into the spotlight, particularly following his wife’s divorce filing last summer.

“Texans recognize that the legislative priorities of President Trump and the stability of the Senate Republican majority hinge on Sen. Cornyn securing the nomination,” declared Andy Hemming, Cornyn’s campaign manager, in a statement. “Our strategy is in full motion, and we are confident in our path to victory.”

As of now, Paxton and Hunt have yet to disclose their latest fundraising figures. With expectations of a runoff in late May, the political landscape remains dynamic and fraught with possibilities.
