Police in Lakeview and Lincoln Park are on the hunt for a burglary crew that targeted multiple businesses overnight. The series of crimes may be connected to a recent crime pattern that the Chicago Police Department issued a warning about just days ago.
According to reports, four men armed with crowbars and other tools broke into Z Food Mart at 3504 North Broadway in Lakeview shortly before 3 a.m. They then proceeded to strike again in Lincoln Park, just south of Fullerton Avenue.
At Big Apple Finer Foods on North Clark Street, the group smashed through the front door and stole cash from the registers. Across the street at Serai Cafe and Deli, they took the cash register before fleeing the scene. Authorities are on the lookout for a purple 2018 Kia sedan that was spotted in the area and was recently reported stolen in Auburn Gresham.
This recent string of burglaries follows a similar pattern that occurred last week. The group of armed men targeted small businesses in Lakeview and Lincoln Park, striking multiple locations in the early hours of the morning. The suspects, described as up to five Black men between 20 and 30 years old, were all dressed in dark clothing and ski masks. During last week’s crimes, they were seen using a stolen black Acura TLX.
Detectives from both Area 3 and Area 5 are currently investigating the incidents. Anyone with information is urged to contact Area 3 detectives at 312-744-8263 or Area 5 detectives at 312-746-7394. Tips can also be submitted online at CPDTIP.com, referencing crime pattern 26-CWP-001.
