The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art is set to showcase a groundbreaking exhibition featuring artists based in Connecticut. This marks the first time in the museum’s 62-year history that such a survey will be presented. The exhibition, titled “Aldrich Decennial: I Am What Is Around Me,” is scheduled to open on June 7 and will run until January 10, 2027.

The exhibit will highlight the works of 40 artists who call Connecticut home, including emerging talents who have never had a solo museum exhibition in the state. Among the featured artists are Dominic Chambers, Arghavan Khosravi, and Renee Gladman. Drawing inspiration from the state’s rich artistic legacy, the show aims to showcase works created within the past decade that reflect the diverse creative landscape of Connecticut.

The title of the exhibition, “I Am What Is Around Me,” is derived from a poem by Wallace Stevens, a renowned poet who resided in Hartford, Connecticut. The poem explores the concept of identity and how it is shaped by one’s surroundings. Chief Curator Amy Smith-Stewart expressed excitement about the exhibition, stating, “Connecticut has always been a site for visionary artists and daring ideas. This survey spotlights artists who call this place home — artists whose work is deeply rooted in the Museum’s community yet resonates far beyond it.”

The lineup of participating artists for the Aldrich Decennial includes a diverse range of talents, from painters to multimedia artists to poets. Some of the artists featured in the exhibition are Faustin Adeniran, Ellen Altfest, Carlos Bautista Biernnay, Dominic Chambers, Arghavan Khosravi, and many more. The exhibition aims to celebrate the vibrant artistic community in Connecticut and provide a platform for local artists to showcase their work on a national stage.

The Aldrich Decennial promises to be a groundbreaking event that highlights the creativity and innovation of artists living and working in Connecticut. By bringing together a diverse group of artists and their unique perspectives, the exhibition seeks to ignite conversations about identity, community, and artistic expression. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind showcase of talent at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art.
