Man with Eight Prior Felony Convictions Arrested After Firing AK-Style Pistol from Lamborghini

Isai Rivera and a Lamborghini Urus (Chicago Police Department, Damien B Oh)

A 34-year-old man with eight prior felony convictions has been detained on a host of charges after allegedly firing an AK-style pistol from a red Lamborghini, which he proceeded to crash into a marked Chicago police squad car.

Isai Rivera was arrested following the incident that began when surveillance officers monitoring cameras in the Shakespeare (14th) District saw the driver of a red 2021 Lamborghini Urus firing what appeared to be a micro Draco AK pistol from the driver’s window in the 3200 block of West Le Moyne Street, police said.

The surveillance officer tracked the Lamborghini to a restaurant parking lot in the 3800 block of West Harrison Street, where patrol officers were dispatched. As police arrived, several people allegedly ran back to the Lamborghini and sped away, driving west on Harrison Street, which is a one-way eastbound street, before crashing into a marked CPD squad car, according to a CPD report. The crash injured two officers, the report said.

Rivera and another occupant bailed out of the driver’s door, with Rivera allegedly carrying a “rifle style gun” that he tossed under a parked car before officers apprehended him.

During his arrest, Rivera was found carrying more than $4,200 in cash and exhibiting signs of intoxication, police said. Officers reported that he smelled of alcohol, had glassy eyes, and “displayed six of six clues” of intoxication during a field sobriety test. He refused to take a breath test, the CPD report said.

He faces a long list of charges including unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon with two or more previous convictions, aggravated fleeing causing bodily injury, aggravated battery of a peace officer, and DUI.

Judge Antara Rivera ordered him detained pending trial.

Court records show Rivera has an extensive criminal history. In 2023, he received a five-year sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm and two years for identity theft. In 2017, he was sentenced to four concurrent three-year terms for identity theft, three years for burglary, and 42 months for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
