The Fisk University Bulldogs will not be taking the court this Thursday following the tragic death of sophomore forward, Andre Bell. Bell was shot and killed on a highway in Nashville, Tennessee, sending shockwaves through the HBCU community.
Assistant Athletic Director, Scott Wallace, confirmed to TMZ Sports that the team has decided to postpone their upcoming game against Voorhees University. However, they are set to resume play on Saturday against Talladega College.
The Bulldogs’ next home game is scheduled for January 24, and the sophomore class plans to pay tribute to Bell during that game. They have also created two graphics in honor of their fallen teammate.
The Metro Nashville Police Department’s investigation revealed that Bell and two friends were returning to campus from a gymnastics event when a dark sedan pulled up alongside Bell’s white Nissan Sentra and opened fire, fatally wounding Bell.
Despite being critically injured, Bell was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Andre Bell was only 20 years old at the time of his untimely death, leaving behind a devastated community at Fisk University. The team and school are mourning the loss of a promising young athlete and student, as they come to terms with this senseless tragedy.
