Best Phone Network 2026: UK Mobile Networks Compared
SHARE

In the fast-paced world of 2026, a smartphone has become an essential tool for communication, work, entertainment, and more. When it comes to acquiring a smartphone, there are two main options available to consumers.

The first option is to purchase a phone on contract, which typically includes a monthly fee for the device along with a set amount of calls, texts, and data. Alternatively, consumers can choose to buy the phone outright and pair it with a SIM-only deal, either physical or eSIM. This option often results in lower monthly payments compared to a contract.

Regardless of the purchasing method chosen, consumers must also select a network provider. In the UK, there are three main networks – EE, O2, and Vodafone. However, there are numerous Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) that operate on these networks, providing consumers with a wide range of choices.

Choosing the right network provider can be challenging, which is why this article aims to provide an overview of each network and its associated MVNOs. This information will help consumers make an informed decision based on their specific needs and preferences.

It’s worth noting that all phones sold in the UK since December 2021 are unlocked, allowing consumers to easily switch between providers while retaining their phone number. This flexibility gives consumers the freedom to explore different network options without constraints.

For those still undecided on which phone to purchase, there are guides available for the best budget phones, best mid-range phones, and best overall phones to help narrow down the choices.

### What’s the best phone network in the UK?

Let’s take a closer look at the three main phone networks in the UK:

#### EE
EE’s network is a combination of the old T-Mobile and Orange frequencies, offering extensive coverage nationwide. With 99% of the UK population covered by 4G and 5G available in 50 towns and cities, EE is known for its reliable service. The network also offers a variety of iPhone, Google, Samsung, and Honor phones on contract, as well as competitive SIM-only deals starting at ÂŁ19 per month.

In addition to EE’s offerings, there are several MVNOs that use the EE network, including Utility Warehouse, 1pMobile, Lycamobile, Your Co-op, Ecotalk, Spusu, IQ Mobile, and RWG Mobile.

#### O2
O2 has been a prominent player in the UK phone network market since 2002, boasting nearly 99% coverage outdoors. While 5G availability is more limited, O2 offers free EU roaming up to 25GB per month and provides a range of iPhone, Samsung, Google, Motorola, and other phones on contract. SIM-only deals start at ÂŁ15 per month, with additional perks such as priority booking at O2 venues and thousands of free Wi-Fi hotspots.

MVNOs that operate on the O2 network include Giffgaff, Sky Mobile, and Tesco Mobile.

#### VodafoneThree
Vodafone and Three merged in 2025 to create the largest phone network in the UK. Three offers a wide range of phones on contract, including iPhone, Samsung, Google, Honor, and more, as well as SIM-only deals starting at ÂŁ12 per month. Vodafone, on the other hand, provides iPhone, Samsung, Google, Motorola, and other phones on contract, with SIM-only options available from ÂŁ7 per month.

MVNOs utilizing the VodafoneThree network include iD Mobile, Smarty, Voxi, Lebara Mobile, and others.

In conclusion, choosing the right phone network in the UK involves considering coverage, pricing, perks, and the offerings of associated MVNOs. By understanding the options available and assessing individual needs, consumers can make an informed decision that meets their requirements.
