‘Blossom’ Creator Don Reo to Receive WGA Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award

Veteran TV writer and producer Don Reo is set to receive the prestigious Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement at this year’s Writers Guild Awards. The award, presented by the Writers Guild of America West, honors members who have made significant contributions to the television writing profession.

The ceremony, where Reo will be presented with the award, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 8, at JW Marriott L.A. Live Los Angeles. The honor will be presented by “Blossom” star Mayim Bialik, who expressed her admiration for Reo’s exceptional career.

In a statement, Reo expressed his gratitude for the award, stating, “I am touched and honored to receive this wonderful award. It gives me hope for the future.” Bialik also praised Reo, calling him a “living legend” and commending his diverse and phenomenal career.

Reo’s impressive career began with writing for iconic shows such as “MASH,” “The Golden Girls,” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” He later went on to create successful series like “Blossom” and “The John Larroquette Show.” Additionally, Reo served as showrunner for the critically acclaimed series “Action.”

His collaborations with Damon Wayans on “My Wife & Kids” and “Everybody Hates Chris” further solidified his reputation as a talented writer and producer. Reo’s work on “Two and a Half Men,” where he served as an executive producer and co-showrunner, also garnered widespread acclaim.

The Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement is considered the highest honor for television writing by the WGA West. Previous recipients include esteemed writers like Vince Gilligan, Linda Bloodworth Thomason, and Aaron Sorkin.
