Kanye West is making headlines once again, this time for his ambitious plans to build a self-sustaining city in Beverly Hills. The rapper, who recently purchased a $35 million mansion in the area, has sparked concern among his new neighbors who fear his grand vision may disrupt the tranquility of their gated community.

According to TMZ, residents of North Beverly Park are heavily opposed to West’s idea, with one neighbor even going as far as calling it “delusional”. Some pointed to West’s failed renovation of his Malibu mansion as evidence of his inability to see such a project through, while others worry about the potential influx of unwanted fans and disturbances to the area.

His new 11-bedroom, 18-bathroom home boasts luxurious amenities such as a resort-style pool, a tennis court, and an entertainment pavilion, spread across seven acres of land. This purchase comes on the heels of West selling his Malibu property for $21 million, a significant drop from his initial asking price of $53 million after he transformed the mansion into a “bomb shelter” from the 1910s.

West first announced his plans for a self-sustaining city in the Middle East last year, envisioning a futuristic development on a massive 100,000-acre plot of land. While the project is still in its early stages, West is actively seeking partners to assist with planning and development.

Despite being listed as a billionaire by Forbes in 2020, West’s net worth has taken a hit in recent years, dropping to around $400 million following the termination of partnerships with Adidas, The Gap, and Balenciaga due to controversial statements made by the rapper.

Currently, West and his wife Bianca Censori are exploring the possibility of relocating to Japan, a move that could impact his co-parenting arrangement with ex-wife Kim Kardashian. Kardashian, who shares four children with West, is reportedly concerned about the potential disruption to their children’s lives caused by frequent travel to Japan.

As West continues to make headlines with his extravagant lifestyle and ambitious projects, only time will tell if his vision for a self-sustaining city in Beverly Hills will come to fruition.
